This book was bought for my son in high school. I would have given him five stars if it had fewer double entandres.(SP). He loves all things that have to do with the out doors. Patrick Mc Manus has a great way of making you feel like you were a part of his adventures. All in all we sat as a family and read each chapter aloud each evening. We couldn't put the book down.
Patrick McManus is America's backwoods Shakespeare. Sometimes it's just as fun to watch the people listening as they fall off of furniture and gasp for breath between guffaws. For reasons I don't quite comprehend, most women don't seem to appreciate the humor, but that's OK. literally. Let them read their mushy love stories; us men will stick to tales of the American wilderness, written by our all-American outdoor hero. Boys and grown-up boys of all ages enjoy his dry humor, his creative descriptions of the trouble he gets into, and the way he communicates effectively the joys and pains of growing up.We have close to 10 of Pat's books now, and all of them provide evenings of rollicking fun and excitement. His stories of life growing up in rural America are extremely entertaining: I've seen an entire room of men rolling on the floor. but soon you'll be doing the same, so keep listening.Note: your wife, girlfriend or other women in your life will look at you as if you've gone crazy when you read this book.
This one is no exception. Call up the guys, find somebody who's a good reader, and enjoy the hilarity. It's a man's book, written for men, and if they don't find it hilarious it's just proof that we're different, right. Besides, what's funny about love stories.
This man is a genius, as much as for what he leaves you to imagine as for what he writes. Great entertainment.
i first theses books when i was ten years old and i haven't stopped yet. we only have four books but i intend to get more of the books. they are funny. i like the one where he goes hunting on his bicycle and gets the deer stuck on the pedals.

Downwind: Whichever side of the campfire you happen to be on.And who could forget "When hell freezes over": An expression used by wives and mothers to indicate the next time you'll get them to go on another camping trip. I loved the book, and I would definitely recommend this book to any outdoorsman, great or not, that has a sense of humor and a sense of what the author is going through.
